Union Street Players
Walk of Fame

In 2008, the USP Board of Directors established the Union Street Players Walk of Fame to recognize outstanding contributions to our theatre community.

The term “Walk of Fame” was carefully chosen over “Hall of Fame” because a hall typically celebrates those who have retired, while a walk represents an ongoing journey! Fittingly, many members of the USP Walk of Fame continue to contribute to our productions in meaningful ways, embodying this spirit of active engagement.

The Walk of Fame is our way of honoring individuals who have gone above and beyond in contributing to the success of USP. Individuals meeting the following criteria may considered for the Walk of Fame:

  • Ten or more years of active involvement
  • Participation in multiple roles. This includes acting, directing, producing, stage management, being a board member, helping with lights, sound, and more!
  • Dedication to furthering USP’s mission, and enriching our theatre community.

Initially, the Board intended to honor one individual each year at an annual awards dinner. However, the Board has chosen to honor more than one person in certain years (three in 2008, two in 2009 and 2013) and none in others, such as in 2012, when we celebrated all members in recognition of USP’s 25th anniversary.

Anyone can nominate individuals for consideration. However, Walk of Fame inductees are selected by the Board of Directors. (You can find the USP Walk of Fame nomination form at the bottom of this page.) Once nominated, a person remains in consideration each year until they are inducted, or the Board of Directors determines that the nominee does not meet the basic criteria.

Greg May is the 2024 Union Street Players Walk of Fame inductee!

For over three decades, Greg has made countless contributions to our theatre, our theatre family, and has had a significant impact on our community. Greg’s dedication has helped shape Union Street Players, and we are proud to honor him in this special way!

About Greg:

Greg’s first experience in theatre was playing Santa Claus in a 3rd grade Christmas play, in a suit made by his mother. His next opportunity was in junior high, and his acting continued throughout high school, college, and community theatre.

He first ran sound for the Union Street Players’ Tulip Time production of The Murder Room in 1991. His first acting role in a full-length play for USP was in Arsenic and Old Lace in 1992. However, he did participate in the early beginnings of USP in a one-act play directed by founding member and USP Walk of Fame Inductee, Beverly Graves in Pella’s Central Park in the late 1980’s.

Since then, he has appeared in over 35 shows with Union Street Players. Among his favorite productions were The Music Man, Guys and Dolls, and The King and I. His first time singing a solo onstage came with The Music Man in 1997.

Many lasting friendships were made during these productions, and Greg continues to make a lasting impression through his involvement in the Knoxville Area Community Theatre and Newton Community Theatre.

He would like to thank his biggest fan for all of her support over the years – his mom, Sherrie May!  He is greatly honored to be inducted into the USP Walk of Fame and is proud to be joining his fellow inductees! Join us in honoring our 2024 Walk of Fame Inductee, Greg May!
