Drama Camp

Union Street Players Drama Camp is our exciting, week-long summer camp in Pella, Iowa, where students entering grades 1 through 9 learn theatre and stagecraft!

Is your child an actor? What about a goofball? Do they tend to steal the show? Are they ALWAYS quoting their latest favorite show or video? Then we can’t wait to meet them—and trust us, they’ll fit right in! Do you have an introvert? No worries! The show can’t go on without set designers, prop masters, makeup artists, costumers, and many other positions that won’t place your child center stage. Whatever your child’s comfort level, they’ll feel at home with their new theatre family!

Our camp takes place every summer at the Joan Kuyper Farver Auditorium with Union Street Players, right here in Pella. Kids experience a variety of hands-on activities, from learning the basics of acting to getting creative with set building, all while making friends and having a blast!

Union Street Players Drama Camp takes place every summer at the Joan Kuyper Farver Auditorium with Union Street Players community theater in Pella, Iowa.

Camp activities include:

  • A stage show with costumes – On the big stage, where they’ll perform for friends and family!
  • Reader’s theatre – Boosting their reading and performance skills in a fun, relaxed format.
  • Acting skills – Mime, puppetry, and improv—perfect for young actors to express themselves.
  • Vocalization and script work – Practice script reading and writing and using character voices.
  • Characterization and audition prep – Learn how to truly bring a character to life!
  • Makeup clinic – A hands-on workshop in stage makeup techniques.
  • Set and prop building – We’ll let them get creative behind the scenes!

And that’s just the start! If your child has any interest in acting, performing, being onstage, or just likes attention (No judgement! Trust us… we of all people understand! 😉), then USP Drama Camp is for them! We’ll teach them everything they need to know to get their young acting careers started.

At the end of the week, it’s time for the grand finale! Friends and family are invited to watch as your budding young thespian performs on the big stage in the Joan Kuyper Farver Auditorium at the Pella Community Center.

2025 USP Drama Camp Details

Looking for a summer camp in Pella? The 2025 USP Drama Camp is shaping up to be our best camp yet!
Our theme this year is – The Greatest Show.

REGISTRATION IS OPEN

  • Dates: August 4th – 8th
  • Registration fee: $75.00
  • Camp director: Sarah Bentzinger

Grades 1-4

  • Times: 9am – 12pm
  • Performance: August 8 at 6pm

Grades 5-9

  • Times: 1pm – 4pm
  • Performance: August 8 at 7:30pm

Please note: Groups are determined by what grade your child will be in next year.

Each student will receive a commemorative t-shirt as part of their registration, and unlike our other Union Street Players shows and events, you are encouraged to record your child’s performance! That way you can embarrass them when they’re older. Wait… We mean always remember this cherished moment!

By checking “I agree” – I confirm that I have given my child(ren) permission to leave USP Drama Camp on their own. Furthermore, I release Union Street Players from any and all liability or responsibility of my child(ren) once they have left the Pella Community Center.

We cannot continue the application without your acknowledgement and release of liability.

Some children are shy, some are outgoing, some can be a bit over the top, but ALL ARE WELCOME at the USP Drama Camp!

Our goal is for every child to have an exciting and memorable experience at Drama Camp. Perhaps their best friend coming and would like to be in the same group! Or, perhaps that’s not the best idea 😉… You know your child(ren) best, and we’d love it if you shared anything that might improve their overall experience!
