Anyone with a helping hand is welcome to join Union Street Players’ network of volunteers! There are many unseen aspects of putting on our performances and events, and we greatly appreciate those willing to help us continue providing a friendly, safe, and encouraging place to take part in community theatre.
From costumes to construction, we have a very wide variety of ways to help. On this page, you will find some of the most common volunteer opportunities at USP, as well as our Volunteer Calendar so you can stay up to date on our volunteer events.

Costume Shop
The USP Costume Shop is our most pressing need.
As we continue with our remodel at our new location, we are open by “Appointment Only.” However, we are working diligently to prepare the shop for regular business hours and have been making great strides. That’s where you come in!
People of all ages and skill levels are welcome to volunteer, and there are countless ways to get involved! Whether you have an hour or an afternoon, your time and effort will make a big difference. And don’t worry – you’ll have the guidance of a knowledgeable costume shop manager or attendant to support you every step of the way.
Together, we can ensure the USP Costume Shop remains a welcoming, dependable, and accessible service to all who rely on it.
Below are some of the most helpful ways you can lend a hand:
Construction
- Building costume racks, shoe racks, and shelving
- Painting and preparing spaces
Organization
- Sorting hangers
- Sorting costumes
- Sorting props and accessories
- Transporting items for donation to local organizations in need
Operational and Administrative Tasks
- Assisting customers
- Cleaning and maintaining the shop
- Costume rentals:
- Retrieving costumes for rentals and productions
- Checking in costumes after use
Costume Maintenance
- Laundering and ironing costumes
- Tailoring:
- Hemming, mending, and altering
- Creating costumes from patterns
We warmly invite you to be part of our efforts. You can take pride in knowing that your contribution has played a vital role in preserving and enhancing this invaluable resource – not just for our productions, but for the many community theatres, churches, and schools that depend on our costume shop as their trusted costuming solution.
Productions
USP typically produces three shows a year, and there are always volunteer opportunities beyond the obvious roles of acting or directing!
Below you will find some of the positions that we frequently seek to fill.
Producers
- Oversee management of an entire production in concert with the Director, Board, and Production Team.
Stage Managers
- Provide organization and management of auditions, rehearsals, and performances.
Musical Directors
- Manage, direct rehearsals, and oversee vocal and instrumental requirements of musicals.
Costume Assistants
- Help make sure costumes are laundered, mended, and ready for each performance.
Make-Up Assistants
- Help actors with their hair/make-up before a show.
Production Assistants
- Servant-hearted helpers willing and available to do what needs to be done.
Prop Masters
- Unearth, create, and find the perfect props needed on stage to make a production shine!
Backstage Crew
- Open curtains, move set pieces, make sure people and things are in places, and etc.
Child Wranglers
- Help keep the young actors quiet and occupied when not on stage in shows with many kids.
